Quantum Drive Update Read Me
Important Hard Drive Information
February 16, 1996

Internet: support@daystar.com

The Genesis MP Installer will install an updated Drive Data file into your hard drive's Hard Disk ToolKit folder. This file is used by FWB's Hard Disk ToolKit applications to properly configure your driver software. This new version corrects problems that have been discovered when the Quantum 1 GB Fireball hard drive is used internally in any PCI-based Mac OS machine. The typical problems can include directory corruption and eventual loss of data.

The Fireball was shipped in some Genesis MP models and it is also possible that you or your reseller may have added a Fireball to your Genesis MP. Be sure to read the following instructions to find out if you have a Quantum Fireball installed and how to properly update the drive to correct this problem.

How to update your Quantum Fireball hard drive

  1. Run the Genesis MP Installer to automatically update your FWB Drive Data file.

  2. Launch FWB's HDT World Controlª application.

  3. Check the Model No. column. If a Fireball drive is listed, select it as shown below.

  4. With the Fireball drive selected, click the Control icon in the upper right hand corner.

  5. In the parameter page window that appears, select Optimize.

Note: Once you have optimized the Fireball drives, you should not make further changes to their parameter pages.

  6. Repeat the above procedure for any other internally mounted Fireball hard drives.

  7. Run Disk First Aid (included with the Mac OS), Norton Utilities or Mac Tools on your Fireball drives to ensure that any existing directory damage is corrected.

  8. If you continue to experience drive or system software problems, your system software may have been damaged prior to performing the above fix. In this case, it will be necessary to reinstall your System Software.

If you continue to experience problems with your Genesis MP, contact your reseller or DayStar Technical Support at the 770-967-2077.
